Vegan Bombon Calle Canalejas Alicante 8th May 2019
Vegan Bombon is a fabulous cafe in Alicante and not only is it 100% vegan but also 100% gluten free too and has the most amazing array of vegan cakes and pastries I have ever seen.
The display of cakes, pastries, croissants and breads absolutely blew me away, I have never seen a display like it, all made in house.
We sat down and perused the menu, whilst drinking a bottle of Fritz cola, as well as gazing at the display cabinet, because cake choosing was going to be extremely difficult.
I chose houmous, rocket and sun dried tomato on toast, with a vegan cheese toast with pickled cucumber, rocket and lamb's lettuce for Steven.
The bread was amazing, even more so as it was gluten free and I loved the presentation, there was no skimping on the toppings, which were so fresh and delicious, we left clean plates.
We had to have cake how could we resist, so I chose Sacher torte, a rich chocolate cake with marshmallow and apricot jam layers, with a slice of Oreo cake for Steven, the Oreo part obviously homemade gluten free.
The cakes were out of this world scrumptious, rich and decadent, so delicious we did not want to finish eating them.
We had a chat with owner Edgar and a lady called Gloria, using Google translate as neither of us spoke each others language and he was so enthusiastic and happy about his baking. This place has to be on the list to visit when in Alicante, it is an absolute gem. Highly recommended.
We spoke to Enrique (Edgar's brother who was away) via Google translate and his little bit of English and ordered a Beyond burger classic and a cheese and meat bagel served with chips.
I was gutted we did not have an evening in port, as they had the Beyond Burger on the evening menu, proudly advertised in the window.

We revisited Vegan Bombon on 27th April on another cruise and headed there for lunch, after a long walk and the cake display did not disappoint.
The burger was as good as any I have eaten, loaded with lots of guacamole, mayo and delicious chips on the most amazing gluten free roll. Steven enjoyed his bagel, though no idea what the vegan cheese or meat was, but he loved it. We demolished every morsel, washed down with a Fritz cola and ordered cakes to take away back to the ship for afternoon tea, beautiful packaged in a lovely box.
Vegan Bombon did not disappoint, it was fabulous, great food served by an ever smiling Enrique an worth a visit if you ever visit Alicante.
We visited Vegan Bombon today for cakes. It's such a cute cafe and I loved knowing I could safely choose anything from the counter :-)
