Yakumama Cantina & Bar Rochdale Road Todmorden 1st May 2022

Yakumama is a cantina and bar in The Old Co-Op building, offering a Latin American small plates menu and serve a Columbian all day brunch on Sundays.   Owners Hannah and Marcelo started life as street food traders and finally made The Co-Op home after crowd funding in 2019.   The name Yakumama means Mother Water, a mythical water goddess portrayed as a snake, believed to inhabit the Amazon river.

The building has bags of character and lots of space spread over two floors, so we sat upstairs looking forward to our  brunch.

The menus change regularly with vegan options a plenty, all wines and beers are vegan friendly too and its a lovely chilled place to relax and dine.

We ordered two vegan versions of the Columbian brunch, which also happens to be gluten free and a large cafetiere of coffee to share, although we sent the first coffee back, as it was too weak.

When the waitress served our brunch, you just wanted to dive in and eat, it was like a picture on a plate, with its vibrant colours.   The arepas made with corn flour are deep fried and were crispy on the outside yet soft on the inside and the combination of flavours and textures on the plate were an absolute winner.

Yakumama is a forty five minute drive for us but totally worth it, we loved every moment of our visit and cannot wait to return to try their small plates menu.   By the time we left the place was packed on both floors and I can understand why, its fabulous.   Highly recommended.
