Vegolution Germain Street St John New Brunswick 14th September 2018
Vegolution is a vegetarian restaurant in beautiful Saint John, owned by chef owners Keith and Sarah Broome and we arrived on a lovely sunny Friday lunchtime.
I heard about Vegolution from Cathy and Bronwyn at Corn Crib Natural Foods, where I spent awhile having a chat and browsing the shelves, for things to take back on board. If you visit Saint John, pop in and say hello, you will get a warm welcome.
Vegolution has a large open plan kitchen and the interior is modern, yet warm and welcoming and luckily we managed to get a table, as the place was buzzing.
There is an extensive menu offering starters, salads, mains and desserts, with plenty vegan options so it was difficult to make a choice.
We ordered warm olives and mushrooms to share and when served, this dish certainly had eye appeal, it was Michelin star presentation. We both agreed it was one of the best starters we had eaten in a long time, perfectly seasoned and cooked, lovely textures and flavours, a spot on dish.
I chose the vegan cheese burger for mains and Steven the seared tofu and when served, again the colourful presentation grabbed your attention, you just wanted to dive in and eat.
Steven loved the crisp tofu, accompanied with seasonal vegetables, with a myriad of flavours to tickle the taste buds, offset by mushroom veloute. My burger was nice and juicy, not soggy but plenty of bite to it, with vegan cheese and delicious crisp fries. I should have asked whether the bun was seeded, so I had to pick through the bread to avoid the poppy seeds, which I managed as they were mainly on the top.
We were too full for dessert and I wish I had not eaten all the fries, but I could not resist. We had a quick chat with Keith and Sarah and were amazed to find they only opened in May this year, they are doing a grand job, apparent by the number of people dining and those coming in to wait for a table. I have been to Saint John on two previous cruises in years gone by and it was a vegan desert, so Vegolution is a vegan oasis. Highly recommended if you visit the area, you will not be disappointed.
