They have clearly marked vegan options on the menu, so there is plenty of choice for vegans, although only a fruit salad for dessert sadly, would be lovely if they improved on this.
I also found two vegan friendly wines on the list, after emailing two wine producers, who were more than happy to answer my questions.
I was disappointed the soup marked as a vegan option, was cream of cauliflower, what a shame they did not keep some aside for me without the cream, they clearly knew I was a vegan it was on our booking. I therefore chose the nachos with salsa with houmous instead of the cheese with a glass of the Chenin Blanc.
I was impressed the tortilla chips were freshly made and cooked, not just out of a bag, were crisp and not greasy at all and a good sized portion too, a perfect starter.
Main course was wild mushroom and spinach risotto, which I ordered with some trepidation, I have had so many risottos that have been awful and tasteless. This version was far from that, there were plenty mushrooms and spinach, it was well seasoned and I took some Good Carma Foods Original dairy free Parmesan with me, so all in all it was a delicious risotto.
I really like The Black Horse and although its a long drive for us, next time we would stay over as they have rooms and being in the Yorkshire Dales, it is brilliant for walking.
