Food For Friends Prince Albert Street Brighton 7th September 2017

Food For Friends was established in 1981 and today is a Brighton icon, with a modern contemporary feel, serving gourmet fine dining vegetarian and vegan food.   I contacted them to enquire if my vegan diet with allergies could be accommodated, the answer a positive yes, so we booked for the last night of our three day trip to Brighton.

I spoke to the Manager as to which dishes could be tweaked to suit my allergies, then sat back and drank a very nice glass of L'Or du Sud Grenache Blanc wine.   We both chose starters of king oyster mushroom scallops, crushed peas and salsa verde, without tempeh for me and agreed it was a delicious stunning dish.

We chose a Barbera D'Asti Ceppi Stori red wine, to accompany mains of spinach and pumpkin seed gnudies with roast cauliflower and tofu lollipop, with a side of roast vegetables.

Our main courses were faultless, my gnudies were like gnocchi, but so light and tasty with the harissa dressing.   The tofu lollipop was just that, coated in black and white sesame seeds on a stick, with satay sauce and raw sweet potato salad and the roast vegetables were spot on too.

Dessert to share was sorrel and lime granita, pickled watermelon, mixed fruit granola and was a picture in a dish and a refreshing finish to the meal.

We were impressed with Food For Friends, whoever is manning the kitchen knows their stuff, the food is perfectly executed, well seasoned and packed with flavour.   This is somewhere special for celebrations and is the best fine dining vegetarian and vegan restaurant I have been too, in a long time.
